Elevating Flutistry Intensive is designed for flutists of various ages and skill levels. It is beneficial for flutists to have approximately two years of experience playing the flute before registering for Elevating Flutistry Flute Week, but this is just a guideline. Elevating Flutistry Intensive is an opportunity for flutists to learn and elevate their musicianship. In order to do to that, participants should be ready to meet new challenges and be open to areas of music that may be unfamiliar to them. Elevating Flutistry strives to give all participants a foundational level of musical knowledge and skills upon which greater artistry and musicianship can be built. If you are feeling nervous about not feeling prepared enough, know that Elevating Flutistry is not about being perfect and already knowing everything, but about growth and trying new things!

Yes, all flutists are given opportunities to perform for others during Elevating Flutistry Intensive. Each flutist will perform as a member of a chamber ensemble and as a member of the flute choir.These performances will take place throughout the week in front of their peers and at the end of the week at the Celebration Concert for an audience of family. Masterclass Performers will also have the opportunity to perform as a soloist for their peers in masterclasses throughout the week.

No, you do not need to audition to attend Elevating Flutistry. However, we do ask that all registrants submit a video of them playing a selected excerpt so that we can get an idea of their playing ability. This will help us place flutists into appropriate chamber ensembles and flute choir sections.

Yes! Music is a craft and skill that takes repetition and consistency. By attending Elevating Flutistry Intensive again, not only will the foundations you started building last year be reinforced, but you’ll build on those foundations with new skills and knowledge. You’ll find that our classes are not exactly the same every year, and you’ll experience new nuggets of inspiration!

A masterclass is a solo performance in front of one’s peers with constructive feedback and coaching by the Elevating Flutistry Master Artists. After having the opportunity to perform their solo, flutists can expect a positive coaching experience with Master Artists to further improve their performance- (It’s like a lesson with an audience). This model not only provides the performer with an opportunity to perform and grow, but also gives the audience the chance to learn from their peer’s performance and Master Artist feedback.

Masterclass Performers should prepare a solo piece from the standard flute repertory and should include a one minute video submission of the piece they intend to perform in their registration. Pieces can be written for flute alone or flute with piano accompaniment. Ensemble music, arrangements of popular music, and music intended for other instruments is not appropriate repertoire for a masterclass. Please consult your private teacher or our Master Artists if you have questions about this.

Flutists are encouraged to dress for comfort during daily classes and workshops at the Elevating Flutistry Intensive. Flutists should anticipate sitting, standing, and movement around the room.

Flutists will receive an Elevating Flutistry Intensive t-shirt and will be asked to wear them for the final concert. Flutists may also want to dress up a little for the final concert, but this is by no means required.

Unfortunately, no. We are a day camp and primarily serve local students in the Boise and Omaha areas.

No, lunches will not be provided during Elevating Flutistry Intensive. Please be sure to pack one and bring it with you.

Flute choir is an ensemble made up of flutes entirely! This is an exciting opportunity for flutists to play with one another in a large group setting. Some students will also have the opportunity to perform on piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute.

Another performance opportunity at Elevating Flutistry Intensive is the opportunity to participant in chamber music. Chamber music is a genre of classical music that utilizes just a few performers rather than a large ensemble (like flute choir). Elevating Flutistry members will experience chamber music in a trio or quartet which will be assigned at the beginning of the week and rehearsed throughout. Flutists do not need to come to Elevating Flutistry Intensive with chamber music already prepared.

The Artist Recital is your opportunity to hear your Teaching Artists - Madison Booth, Amanda Barro, and Kelsie Kitz - perform! One of the most crucial things for younger flutists to do is listen to professional flutists perform. This shows students what they too can accomplish with hard work, dedication, and practice. Not only will students hear excellent flute playing, but they will also be exposed to music that they haven’t heard before. We believe in the importance of listening and its impact on music education

While we intend for flutists to participate for the entire week, we understand that sometimes conflicts arise. Elevating Flutistry will work with you to handle these conflicts on a case-by-case basis.
